Moving Prep: Sorting Through Stuff
This morning I asked The Husband what I should blog about, and he suggested writing about our upcoming move to Chico and how we’re going to sort through our stuff.
Here’s our tentative plan in no particular order:
- Today, I’m going to buy boxes and tape because I’m going to pack my winter clothes, books, journals, and office supplies this week. I’m packing my stuff now because I leave for Paris at the end of June and I won’t be back home until early August. Plus, the Husband starts his new job in mid-August, so that means we’ll be moving a few days after I get home.
- I’ve written about The Husband’s stuff previously. I won’t be packing any of his belongings. He can decide what to keep or donate. In a future post, I’ll share some details about The Husband’s junk drawers (which are stuffed with stuff). As an aside, he permitted me to write about this topic.
- Household goods like dishes, pots, pans, cleaning supplies, towels, cycling gear, and more are items that we need to go through together.
- As we sort through our shared and personal belongings, we will ask ourselves questions like: Does this bring me joy? Does it add value to my life or the household? Will I read or reference that book again?
I'm looking forward to going through my stuff and letting go of things that no longer bring me joy. I'm also not stressed about going through my belongings or household goods because we've already downsized our lives, and we haven't accumulated many things since we moved out of the tiny house and into a 400-square-foot apartment.
As I go through the process of sorting through our belongings, I'll take notes and photos of what I keep or donate. I plan to share stories about the process on the blog. I hope some of my ideas help you too!
