Recently, I’ve been answering specific reader questions on the blog. If you have questions or topics you need help with, please email me or leave a comment at the bottom of this post. I don’t know if I can respond to all of your questions, but I’ll do my best.
You mentioned in a recent photo essay that you purchased an iPhone 6 Plus. Why did you buy the new iPhone, and how do you like the camera? Do you think I should upgrade from the 5s to the 6 Plus?
My obsession with mobile photography began in 2010 when I purchased an iPod Touch. Since then, I've delved deeper into mobile photography, and I've taken photographs with an iPhone 4s and 5s, and then I recently upgraded to the iPhone 6 Plus.
Logan—my husband and best friend—encouraged me to buy the iPhone 6 Plus. I wasn't going to purchase the phone because I enjoyed using the iPhone 5s, and I didn't believe an upgrade was necessary. However, Logan thought the new iPhone would be a great fit for my business and my ever-growing interest in iPhone photography.
I was nervous about buying such a large phone, so Logan took my brother-in-law's advice and made life-sized, cardboard models of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus for me. The models gave me a better sense of how the phone would feel in my hands. After playing with the cardboard models, I realized the iPhone 6 Plus would met my needs. I had a feeling I would appreciate the gigantic display size, too.
I’ve been using the iPhone 6 Plus since the beginning of October, and I'm happy Logan encouraged me to buy it! The device is lightweight, the camera focuses quickly, and the battery is long lasting. As I suspected, the size is perfect for my needs because the larger display size allows me to:
- compose and edit photos with ease
- read with ease
- write with ease
- and text with ease
In summary, the iPhone 6 Plus is more than a phone (at least for me). For example, over the past two years, I’ve used the iPhone to take 95% of my photos. I also use the device for reading, writing, as well as for talking and texting. In essence, it’s a miniature computer that I use for multiple purposes.
Whether you are buying a new phone, or a computer, it’s essential to be mindful and thoughtful. Upgrading to a new iPhone may, or may not, be the best option for your circumstances. Do your research before you purchase a new phone. Before I bought the iPhone 6 Plus, I made pro/con lists, thought about my needs, readmultiple reviews, and also talked to Logan about the purchase.
