Best Books of 2011

Reading is one of my favorite hobbies. Generally, I read non-fiction but I’ve also been known to read vampire novels too. Every night I climb up the loft ladder, slip under the covers and start reading. The activity is even better when it’s raining. I love hearing the pitter-padder of rain drop on our metal roof and glass skylight.

During 2011, I read a lot of books and for the last few days I’ve been thinking about the books that had the biggest impact on my life. Below are my favorite books of 2011, in no particular order:

1. Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson was an remarkable profile of Jobs who was not only a savvy business person but had a complex personality too. Embedded within the 650 page book are a lot of incredible business lessons and personal details of Jobs’s life.

2. Writing Down the Bones by Natalie Goldberg was incredible. It’s one of the few books in my tiny library. Every time I feel stuck with writing I open this book and read a chapter. Inevitability, I feel a little more centered and calm after reading Goldberg’s words.

3. The Gifts of Imperfection by Brené Brown was another book the changed my writing and how I conduct myself in the world. I’m more apt to be open and vulnerable, instead of guarded. However, Brown also helped me set better boundaries too.

Be well,
