On Saturday November 15, my mom, Logan, and I hiked to Castle Dome in California’s Castle Crags State Park. The hike was roughly 6 miles, which doesn’t sound like a long hike, but the elevation gain was over 2,200 feet! It’s a climb, but the view of the Crags and Mt. Shasta are worth the hike.
Logan and I did the hike at the same time last year to celebrate my step-dad, Mahlon’s, birthday. I’m happy my mom was able to go on the hike this year; although, I think we wore her out. On the way home, she fell asleep in the car.
It was a beautiful fall day, and the colors were stunning. The leaves were colored in yellow, orange, and green tones. On the walk up, we had lunch on the trail with a view of Mt. Shasta and the Castle Dome.
We ended the day with barley wine, a stout beer, meatloaf, and other good eats at the Dunsmuir Brewery. Mahlon would have loved the food, the company, and the expansive views. I want to make the Crags hike an annual celebration to honor Mahlon’s memory and to celebrate his birthday.
Enjoy the photos!
