I am grateful that I was diagnosed 5 years ago with breast cancer. It was my wake up call! I realized life was indeed, too short. So, I got out of a very bad marriage, moved to another state, and began a whole new life and career. A few months ago I met a wonderful man, who, like me, lives a frugal and simple life, plus loves the outdoors. So, if it hadn’t been for my breast cancer diagnosis, I wouldn’t be living the wonderful life I am enjoying today!

I always try to practice gratitude daily. I learned this from a very young age during my Catholic school upbringing- specifically through my friendship with a couple of priests in the church who made a significant impact on my life and helped me to see the good despite the challenges I faced at home, with my family, and in the community. I am not a practicing Catholic but I am grateful to the role models I have had the fortune to meet and learn from in my religion-based education. As an adult I experience the good and bad, and often times when I am experiencing a stretch of ‘bad’ it’s difficult to find or see the good. I’m currently reading Zen Habits by Leo Babauta and this book is helping me to appreciate challenges.

  • Maitri Libellule November 23, 2015, 10:16 am

I never thought I could write anything like this but I am grateful for the fire that could have taken my life but didn’t, that took my 4 parrots but allowed me to save my 4 pugs, that taught me that things are just things so huge that I am going to be getting rid of much of what I own to move from an 1800 square foot house to a 500+ sq foot cottage in the next 6 months to live a simpler life, and I am grateful for all of the dross in my life that went through the Phoenix time after the fire, the terrible, frightening losses, the miraculous gains, I am grateful for every moment of every day, it can be gone in a second, and what I carry inside of me is what I really need, and that is love, and grace, and gratitude. I am grateful for it all…

Love and Blessings and Happy Thanksgiving to you and Logan and the kitties,

    Maitri

I am grateful for the tiny house and minimalism blogs I subscribe to. We moved in an older family member last year and their space is quite cluttered. The space reminds me that while not all are on the same path as I am, I can learn to live around it and set some boundaries. Namely, if I declutter a space, please do not put “stuff” there to make it “look like someone lives here.” I live here, and I like the way I live.

soft fur, and expressive nature more than ever.
