My New Book is Out!

by Tammy Strobel on March 18, 2014

My Morning ViewLast week, I traveled back home and I finally paged though a proof of My Morning View. I was thrilled to see it in print! The book looks lovely. From there, the awesome team at JETLAUNCH made a few changes to the book, uploaded it to amazon, and now it is available to buy!

It’s surreal to send this book into the universe. When I started My Morning View photography series, I never imaged that I would turn it into a photography book. I’m grateful that friends and family encouraged me to pursue this project. I also owe a huge debt of gratitude to the team at JETLAUNCH. They made this book beautiful! Their expertise with editing, design, and independent publishing is invaluable.

I’m crazy excited to share this book with you. But I’m also a little sad. If my step-dad, Mahlon, were still alive I wouldn’t be writing this post, taking my daily photo, or sending this book out into the world. Words can’t express how much I miss Mahlon. I wish I could call him, hug him, and joke around with him at the tiny house. Mahlon can’t be here with us, but I hope he can see my little book from the sky.

This is a great book. I just bought it and am really enjoying it. I have a question about one of the photos. The one of the place mat at the Black Bear Diner (in Beaverton or Lake Placid ??) has a tan notebook on the left side. Is that a Field Notes notebook ? And where did you get the image of the old trailer ? I ask because I have the exact same notebook, and I made the rubber stamp of the trailer. Did you buy that, or make it ? Congratulations on the book..must be a great feeling. I am working on a book of photos of my wanderings in Oregon and Washington (just moved here) and it’s an interesting process…

Hi Lisa – Thank you for buying my book! Please consider leaving a review on amazon. :)

I snapped the photo you mentioned in Yreka, CA. Black Bear Diner’s are all over northern California. I bought the little notebook on Etsy. Here is a link to the journal.

Good luck with your photography book! It sounds awesome.

Cheers,
Tammy

Hi Tammy~ Congrats on your book! We live small, loved “You can buy happiness…” are looking forward to buying this one and are so thrilled for you!
What are the pro’s and con’s of publishing through a service like JetLaunch and the way that you published your first book? I am working on my book and just starting to delve into the different ways to accomplish the publishing. Thanks so much, in advance for all of your help!
Lisa

Hi Lisa – Thanks for reading “You Can Buy Happiness.” I appreciate it! I hope you like my new book.

That’s a tough question. “You Can Buy Happiness” was published through a traditional publishing house. My new book was independently published. I’d suggest reading this book. It’s by my literary agent, David Fugate. He does a great job of explaining both options.

17 Lisa Freeman March 19, 2014

Thank you for the recommendation. I do have a pretty good understanding of the options, I was wondering why you personally chose the way that you did. If that’s too personal, I understand. Thanks so much!

18 Tammy Strobel March 19, 2014

Hi Lisa – Got ya. I had the option to pitch the idea to traditional publishers. But my literary agent didn’t think it would sell. Photography books are really hard to get published through traditional channels. Prior to publishing You Can Buy Happiness (and it’s Cheap), I independently published a few ebooks with success. So I opted to try the indie route with My Morning View. I hope that helps. :)

Congrats on your new book! My copy should arrive soon, and I can hardly wait to read it! Love the Black Bear Diner photos . . . One of our favorite road trip cafes. I’m sure your dad is smiling at you from the other side, happy that you were able to turn your grief into a love-offering for your readers. . . Many blessings to you and Logan . . .

Thank you Sharle! Your comment, and support, mean a lot to me. I hope my dad is smiling from the other side. I miss him so much. Photography has been an amazing healing tool for me and I hope it helps others too.

Hugs,
Tammy

P. S. The biscuits at the Black Bear are so yummy! :)
