A Photo Essay: The Lone Tree

by Tammy Strobel on February 9, 2014

I’ve snapped hundreds of photos of the lone tree, pictured below, over the last year. When I visit this spot, I usually take my photograph from the same location. The scene never looks the same because the light, the weather, and the seasons always change. I also love the contrast between the tree, the rolling hills, and the stark landscape.

2 Anne-Marie February 9, 2014

The lone tree definitely has beautiful surroundings.
Interesting how different each picture looks depending on what’s going on with weather and light.
I have enjoyed the rain this weekend. So nice to finally see some puddles on the ground. :)

I agree, Anne-Marie. The rain has been such a blessing. We need it badly! :)

The lone tree is my favorite! No wait, the horse. No wait, the new trails you find. No wait, the sunsets. No wait, the sunrises. No wait, the view of your desk. No wait, the kitties. No wait, the tiny house. No wait, your mom’s dog. No wait…never mind. :)

Jill – You are so sweet! Thank you. :)

Your photographs are beautiful and I love the idea of taking pictures of the same spot throughout the year. I also checked out your photos for sale. Also beautiful. I would love to see you offer the shot of the Oregon coast that you shared as a screen saver–not sure how long ago. It makes me homesick for Oregon, as I am a former Oregonian. Thanks for your images.

Tammy, you came to mind today as i read Mother Earth News, the feb/march2014 issue. check it out! 2 reasons– a very interesting article you might like about childlessness as a choice which i think you may have touched on previously, briefly. also a call for debt free home reports. for more details on that part see http://www.MotherEarthNews.com/Debt-Free-Home-Reports... just an fyi because you crossed my mind. i so enjoy your books, your blog and of course all your photos!

I love your lone tree and the unique energy of it in it’s environment. Beautifully captured through time and changing surroundings. Love!!!

Tammy – I love the photos! The different seasons, times, weather really make such a beautiful contrast between each photo. I just started reading your book, “You Can Buy Happiness”. So far I am really enjoying it and love that you are trying to help readers realize that it is about each individual’s journey and not a set, standard way of living. Thanks for posting informative information about living simply and these inspiring photos that remind me of what matters most!

Lovely spot, Tammy, and lovely photos. Thank you for sharing.

14 Amber February 11, 2014

I simply love these photos. What a wonderful idea! It says so much with no words at all. A beautiful illustration of how some things change while others stay the same. Such is life. Lovely.

15 Kaylin Lydia February 11, 2014

I just love how you captured the many seasons of that tree.

16 Laura N. February 14, 2014

I have always wanted to do something like this and absolutely love it! :)
