Birthday Adventures

Ashland, OR

Thank you for the birthday wishes. I received so many sweet messages via email, Facebook, Instagram, and on the blog. Each note made me smile. Thank you for making my special day so bright!

Since my birthday fell on a Wednesday, I took a few days off from work to play. I love Ashland, Oregon, so Logan and I decided to spend some time in the area. We booked our lodging through Airbnb and it was a fantastic experience! It was my first time using the service and we stayed in a sweet little condo, one mile from downtown Ashland.

The condo was roughly 600 sq-ft and it was cozy. Our hosts recently remodeled the condo and they decorated the space with 70s decor; the details were lovely. For example, they had an awesome Panasonic stereo and record player, a fire place, stationary & stamps, and a huge Norman Rockwell book on the coffee table.

We spent hours walking around Ashland. It was fun to explore residential areas, downtown, and Lithia Park. I adore Lithia Park, especially during fall. The colors were stunning.

Ashland, OR

In addition to long walks, we dined at fantastic restaurants. If you are ever in Ashland, I recommend checking out these spots:

  • Mix Sweet Shop makes a mean pour-over and their coconut cream tart and chocolate hazelnut macaroons are amazing.
  • Standing Stone Brewery has fantastic beer and starter dishes. My favorite was the goat cheese fondue with multi-seed crackers, apples and olives.
  • We ate Martino’s for my birthday dinner and they didn’t disappoint. The Willamette Valley Vineyard Pinot Gris was lovely and their Oregon Smoked Salmon Ravioli was incredibly rich. I savored every bite.
  • The Breadboard was recommended by our host and the breakfast menu was remarkable. I had a veggie eggs Benedict; instead of meat they added a portobello mushrooms and spinach to the dish.
  • The pad thai at Sesame Asian Kitchen is delicious! Plus, Sesame is a sweet little spot for people watching because it’s right across the street from Lithia Park.

Logan and I don’t eat out often, so eating good food in Ashland was a special birthday treat. I don’t like shopping in boutiques for stuff, but I love spending money on yummy food and coffee.

How do celebrate special occasions?

Be well,

This is my kind of celebration for sure! Thanks so much for sharing it. I’ve been trying to get up the nerve to try Airbnb so it’s nice to have your recommendation. A belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Thanks Julia! Give Airbnb a try. We loved it!

Gorgeous pictures! My husband and I visited Ashland 10 years ago when we were driving around the west coast on our honeymoon. We loved it there so much. We have a framed pic of Lithia Park on our mantle, and it looks very much like the one in the top right of your collage. 🙂

I thought those pics didn’t look like Siskiyou County. 😉 Ashland is such a nice town. When I first came to the US I felt a bit “at home” almost in Ashland as it has more of a European atmosphere.
A friend of mine in Stockholm has been advertising on Airbnb and has got some pretty amazing guests over the past couple of years. Glad to hear that it was such a positive experience.

I love Ashland, too! We stop there over night every time we visit my brother in Eugene. It is so beautiful at Christmas time!

Awesome pictures. I am glad you had a great birthday.
As for how we celebrate special occasions with family, friends, great food, and very few gifts.

Hi Tammy and happy belated birthday to you as well! The pictures you give us here are so special, I can almost feel the leaves under my feet and smell the mist in the air. Very nice! Thank you! I hope this coming year brings you continued success, you and yours, with new adventures and amazing opportunities! Maybe a great and huge coffee table book?

    • Tammy Strobel November 14, 2013, 6:10 pm

Thank you Cecile! You are sweet. I’m working on a “great and huge coffee table book.” With luck (and hard work), I will release it in 2014. xo.

This is a great collection of fall photos! My favorite is your feet in the yellow leaves, so pretty!

  • Stacey November 14, 2013, 5:53 pm

What a fun visit! And gorgeous pictures!

Happy delayed birthday Tammy. Pictures are sweet, I might want to check out Ashland at some point. I was never a big shopper, but after downsizing it really does not make any sense. Spending the money on food and experiences lasts a lot longer for me too… I am a big food lover, and love the atmosphere and mood of restaurants or small cafe’s 🙂

I use to live near Ashland, in Grants Pass. We would go to the tea/bath house in Ashland on my birthday. Have you been there? It is very serene.

    • Tammy Strobel November 15, 2013, 9:42 am

I haven’t been there yet! I’ll check it out. 🙂

  • Jessica November 15, 2013, 9:08 am

Gorgeous pics. Glad you enjoyed your birthday! =)

First time I’ve heard of goat cheese fondue or salmon ravioli. Both sound delish.

  • Alysha November 16, 2013, 6:22 am

Hi Tammy, I love your photos and I’m glad you had a great birthday trip. Through you, I am reliving the time we spent in Ashland in August 2012. We spent a lot of time at Lithia park. Those are some sweet, sweet memories that I will always cherish. Thank you again.
