My Book Baby is Turning One!

On September 18, 2012 my first print book — “You Can Buy Happiness (and it’s Cheap)” — was released into the world! It’s hard to believe that my book has been circulating in bookstores, libraries, and on e-readers for the last year.

I’m grateful that I had the opportunity to write my book and to work with such an amazing publisher! I’m also thankful that I had the opportunity to meet readers on my tiny book tour last year. In addition to meeting readers in person, I’ve been so touched by the emails and thank you cards I’ve received over the last year. Knowing that my book impacted folks in a positive way made the writing process worth it.

To celebrate the one-year anniversary, I decided to giveaway three packages:

1. A Writing Package, which includes:

2. A Photography Package, which includes:

3. A Care-Package, which includes:

Also, my publisher — New World Library — will send each winner a copy of “Bouncing Back” by Linda Graham and “Let it Shine” by John Perlin. Both books are fantastic!

To enter the giveaway:

  • Fill in this sentence,  “Happiness is . . . “, in the comments field at the bottom of this post.
  • Make sure you leave your email address in the comment form. If you win one of the packages, I need a way to contact you.
  • The giveaway closes on September 30th at 11am PST. I will announce the winners on October 1, 2013.
  • You can’t choose what package you will win. Three winners will be chosen using Random.org.

E-book sale

In addition to the giveaway, my ebooks will be on sale for the rest of September. You can buy Smalltopia: A Practical Guide to Working for Yourself and Go Small & Be Happy: A Little Book of Essays for $1.99.

Thank you for reading my blog and book. I couldn’t do this work without your support!

Be well,

Update: Comments are closed. I will announce the giveaway winners on October 1, 2013.

Happiness can only be found when you live outside your own skin, be a part of making someone else’s life better. That’s why grandparents are happier than most. They take children and teach them things and savor the laughter of the toddler, and watch the joy of Christmas mornings. They feel deep joy knowing that the most important persons in the world loves them . I have come to believe the best people in the world are only about 2 1/2 feet tall. The next best people have 4 legs, hair, and a tail that’ll break your leg when they are happy. And they shake water off on you when they’re wet. And that’s fun, too!

Happiness is the first chilly day after summer – sitting cozy in my itty-bitty garage apartment on my hand-me-down bed, watching sunlight, filtered through swaying pecan boughs, fall in through open windows, a breeze carrying tiny tinkling sounds from the wind chimes I’ve carried with me across the country. Closing my eyes and hearing backyard laughter from the family next door. Feeling content with the present moment.

Thank you for this joy-bringing prompt! It’s great to find a haven of simplicity in a sea of consumer-driving messages – and it’s encouraging to know that there’s a thriving community of people who are excited about living differently.

Happiness is waiting for me in the ever-emptying presence of the eternal ‘now.’

I’m a baby minimalist, taking baby steps in letting go of all that does not bless me, my life, my home, and my community. I am ready to both let go, and dive in. The purpose……….the end result…………..the outcome:
Less chaos, less confusion, less noise. Peace, quiet, serenity. Feeling the presence God of……….of creation, of all nature = living IN, but not a part OF this world. Tammy, thank you for the encouragement to get my feet wet. Reading your book has not only nudged me to take baby steps; you have given me the purpose, the desire to dive right into a new and LESSER way of life, that gives MORE AND MORE! Thank you so very much.

Happiness is made up of the simple pleasures in life. The song from a bird, the smile of a child, the touch of a loved one. Material possessions bring only fleeting happiness; taking time to relish the simple pleasures of life, day after day, brings lasting happiness.

Happiness is …… knowing that you are part of the universe (one with everything) and that this Life is like a big classroom, where it is okay to laugh, learn, love, cry and fail at the same time. At the end we are all here to learn and to enjoy the adventure we call LIFE. Everyday there is a new subject, a new teacher and sometimes a new lesson.

I guess – HAPPINESS is to ENJOY THE RIDE!!!!!

Happiness depends on my circumstances. Holiness comes from who I become as I travel through life persevering through adversity with my Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, ever knowing, ever present, ever powerful and ever loving in spite of everything I do. Joy in my weakness comes from His strength.

Happiness is . . . my families (and kittens!) 🙂

I love reading, crafting and doing my own thing (and my cats) but to truly be happy I need my family.
