Our Tiny House: Finding a Parking Space

by Tammy Strobel on February 19, 2013

Yesterday, I posted an article about our upcoming move to Chico and Kim asked a great question. She said:

“Would you or Logan be willing to document your land-finding process for those of us who want to build a tiny house but aren’t sure who to talk to for finding space to live on?”

Today, I recorded a six-minute audio blog on this topic. You can listen in here:

If you have additional questions, leave a comment below.

Cheers,

Thank you so much for this! Me and my partner Dan are considering this and are trying to plan as much as we can. We’re also considering Portland and buying from Dee if we do decide to move.

I love how you talked about the bartering arrangement. It reminded me of something similar to what Mark Boyle–The Moneyless Man–set up in England (P.S. LOVE that book, along with the book “Possum Living”)

Also, I would love to see you and/or Logan make an ebook out of this to get paid for your tiny house knowledge and experience :)

Hey Kim – I’m so happy the audio was helpful! :) Thanks for the ebook idea too. xo.

Tammy, thanks for posting this. My guy and I are in the process of just starting our build with absolutely no idea of where we want to move to when we are finished. We have not even begun to think of where to park it, space and rents….. we thought we would figure it out when we it was time to move….. I would have not thought of contacting a Realtor. Great idea. :)

I am excited to here more about the move! I am extremely interested in building thy houses, I just have no idea where I would put one? Rv parks are the only idea I have come up with. Yet, it doesn’t sound too safe…

Thank you!!! I am also working on putting together ads and flyers first for a build space this summer and second for a parking space in or around the San Francisco area.
It has been a challenge and not being a native here, I am not sure where to begin looking as for building codes and international housing laws. I believe these two major parts puts a pause in my efforts. Is there a website listing all state and local building codes that you know off-hand? I love what you are doing. Love the updates and I hope you find and locate what you are looking for in your next space. What can the realtor help you with?

@Bohemiansunsets – Check out the ICC: http://www.iccsafe.org/

In short, our realtor is helping us find a parking space for the house.

Good luck!

Thanks for the post is there any way you could I guess either post a picture of what you should/would or are including in your flyer that you are putting up? It would help since I am interested in having a tiny house as well. Thanks.

@Rebecca – You can see the flyer we created a few years ago by clicking here. I kept it short, simple and included photos of the house and what we needed from the landowner. Good luck!
