Everyday Life: The Orange County Edition

{Photography helps me see the world differently and enables me to be less sad about my dad’s death. Since I’ve been taking so many photos, I decided to begin a new series on the blog called  “Everyday Life.” Enjoy!}

While my nieces and nephew have been at school this week, I’ve taken hundreds of photos at the beach. Today, my mom and I spent hours walking and talking at Huntington Beach. I have lots of shots to share with you. Also, tune into Wisconsin Public Radio tomorrow morning. I’ll be talking about my book on The Larry Meiller Show!

UPDATE: The interview has been posted. You can listen in by clicking here.

Enjoy today’s photo round-up!

Those pictures make me miss the ocean. I lived in California in the early 80s, near LA. I didn’t care for living there as I’m a small town girl, but I did enjoy the ocean.

Loving your pictures – you have the gift of a good eye! I used to live in Corona del Mar as a child and your photos brought back the smells and the wind and the salt and the wonder. Makes me realize how much I miss the ocean. Thank you for this gift this morning . Cheryl

        Thank you Cheryl and Lols!

    THANK YOU for sharing! Stunning!
I read about your photog class and hope sign up.

    Appreciate you!

    • Tammy Strobel October 25, 2012, 6:45 am

Thanks Dawn! I appreciate that. xo.

  • Cluttered Mama October 24, 2012, 8:12 pm

HEY! You ARE in my ‘hood! Is that the fountain in Old Towne Orange? (if it isn’t, you should totally go check that area out. Cornmeal blueberry pancakes at The Filling Station are the BEST breakfast).

    • Tammy Strobel October 25, 2012, 6:46 am

Hey Cluttered Mama – All of the photos were taken at Huntington Beach. I’ll be sure to check out The Filling Station. Sounds yummy!

      • Cluttered Mama October 25, 2012, 10:40 am

Yeah, I recognized the rest of the photos as HB, but couldn’t tell on the fountain. Now I realize it is the one in front of the fudge store on Main St. Enjoy your time here & thanks for bringing this autumnal weather from up north! 🙂

        • Cluttered Mama October 25, 2012, 10:41 am

Oh and Friday afternoon there is a cool farmer’s market & craft market on the beach by the pier. 1pm to dusk, just fyi.

        • Tammy Strobel October 25, 2012, 3:50 pm

Cool! I’ll try and swing by tomorrow. Sounds lovely.

    • Sherry November 1, 2012, 10:56 am

Yes, the fountain is alive and well in Old Towne Orange.

  • Barbie October 24, 2012, 9:49 pm

The blues/auburn hair photo is Magical! Cheers, from up the way in Venice!

  • Claire October 24, 2012, 10:13 pm

Just love the palette of colours in these photos. Can you post a link for the interview?

    • Tammy Strobel October 25, 2012, 6:46 am

      Claire – I sure will. 🙂

  • jean October 25, 2012, 1:17 am

Tammy these pictures are beautiful. They evoke an incredible sense of serenity. Stirs up the recurring desire to move out of the city.

  • Bastianoso October 25, 2012, 2:28 am

    Hey Tammy,

I love your photos and there’s one thing that I’d really like to know: how do you organize all your photos?
I know you just use a Macbook for your stuff and I wonder if it has enough space for all your photos (I assume you don’t post ALL your photos here).

And how do you manage the backup-procedure? Do you have an external Drive where you backup your Macbook to?

Would appreciate if you could write a blog post about it sometime 🙂

    • Tammy Strobel October 25, 2012, 6:53 am

Bastian – I will be talking about this topic in my upcoming photography class: http://rowdykittens.com/everydaymagic/

To answer your question briefly . . . I’m ruthless about deleting bad photos. Right now I store my pictures on my computer. I share a lot of photos on the blog, but not all of them. Currently, I’m looking into back-up alternatives.

Also, I use iPhone and Lightroom for my digital library and organize my photos by events.

      Be well,

  • Rachel October 25, 2012, 4:37 am

Wow! I was enjoying you blog, thinking, “those are such pretty pictures,” when my husband (who is way into photography) looked over my shoulder and said, “Wow. Those are really good.” So, there you go! Someone who doesn’t know anything about photography and someone who really does both agree that those photos are lovely. Thank you for sharing.

  • Mopsa October 25, 2012, 6:13 am

Such beautiful pictures, as usual 🙂 I love how you captured the drops of water in the first one.
And I can see USA beaches are just like they portray them in movies – with the tiny watch cabins 😛

  • Tara October 25, 2012, 7:19 am

Oh those photos make me miss the ocean! Great pictures, as always. Thanks for the tidbit to Bastian on organization, I’m trying to figure that out too. I plan to sign up for the class!

    🙂 Tara

I heard you on WPR today. You sounded great and hearing the interview got me interested in reading more of your writing.

    • Tammy Strobel October 25, 2012, 3:50 pm

Cheryl – Thanks for the kinds words and for stopping by. Have a wonderful day!

  • Kitty October 25, 2012, 9:30 pm

I just love the rich colors! The blues!

  • Everything French October 26, 2012, 7:30 am

Love the pics…you have a great talent for it. Noticed the mosaic table. I do mosaics….did you make this one? Great composition of color with the assemblage of pieces.

    • Tammy Strobel October 27, 2012, 11:25 am

Nope. 🙂 I saw this table in a shop at the beach.

  • {Simply Cozy Nest} October 26, 2012, 7:57 am

What a beautiful place.. And the sun was shining so bright. Great photos.

  • Saida October 28, 2012, 8:31 pm

Gorgeous photos! I’m just starting to get into photography. I saw others commenting on a photography course. I’ve been looking for some sort of course. I’ll have to check it out 🙂
