Everyday Life: Go Towards the Light

by Tammy Strobel on August 2, 2012

{Photography helps me see the world differently and enables me to be less sad about my dad’s death. Since I’ve been taking so many photos, I decided to begin a new series on the blog called  “Everyday Life.” The series showcase’s images from my everyday life. In addition, the series fits in perfectly with The August Break. Enjoy!}

Everyday Life Photography Tips

– Try shooting into the light. Sometimes this can create an interesting effect in a photograph.

– Natural lighting is best. However, if you’re shooting inside turn the lights on. Doing this will illuminate your photograph and give you a better quality shot; especially if there is little to no natural light in your home.

FAQ

I’ve received two commonly asked questions about my photos. Below are the questions and my responses. If you have more inquiries, feel free to leave a comment.

1. What kind of camera do you use? I have two cameras; a Nikon D5000 and my iPhone camera. I bought my Nikon D5000 about four years ago and it rocks. I take pictures with both everyday. I have a kit lens that came with the D5000 but I prefer taking pictures with my 50mm lens. The Olloclip, for the iPhone, is a really cool tool too!

2. What’s your photo taking process? For more on that topic, read this post.

Tammy, you’re makin’ me crazy over here!

That little custom stamp is *adorable* and the photo of the beautiful, cobalt blue tiled table is mesmerizing me to the point that I am unable to work.

And, yes, like susanna said, keep those cat photos coming!

Wow.

I only ever use my Android phone to take pictures. I had no clue they made something like.the olloclip! Any idea if it works for Android phones?

@Leslie – I don’t think it works with Android phones. But I’m not sure. You might try googling it. :)

Hi Tammy: you really captured the personalities of the super sweet kitties! The calico is muy bonita! I am so sorry to know of your Dad’s passing. My Pops is gone too. I like to think that they aren’t really “gone,” so much as really busy now, just doing something else. I really don’t know, but sometimes when I am filled with emotion, usually when I am scared or just missing him, I can almost imagine that he’s telling me, don’t worry, Boo, it’s gonna be okay. If your Dad was anything like you, then he must have been a super cool guy! I think you have really great ideas, and I’m really glad you share! I really appreciate it! Cissy in Texas

Some very nice photos there. I love to take photos too and I select one for each of my blog articles. My snaps are not as good as yours (yet), but hopefully I’ll get there! :)

Cannot wait to receive your book (pre-ordered it several months ago)!! We have a ‘not so tiny’ house (1200 sq ft 1960’s brick twin) but look forward to building a smaller and more functional home in the not so distant future….and we have 4 cats (soon to be adding 2 more kittens from a friend’s stray cat). Always enjoying your posts!

Thank you for a post with not just one, but TWO kitty pictures this week! As the other commenters said, more cat photos! (You’ll soon have to do a photo post within a photo post just for all the cat pictures. ;-) )
