Inspiring Links: Wild & The Photo Essay Project

by Tammy Strobel on January 6, 2012

{Every Friday, I publish a small round-up of my favorite essays and books as well as a creative prompt for your reflection. Enjoy!}

I didn’t read many blog posts this week because I’ve had my nose in an stunning memoir and I spent a lot of time with my parents too. This week, I’ll tell you a little bit about the book I read last week, a project that’s on the horizon, and leave you with one fun article to read.

- Wild by Cheryl Strayed. A friend recently let me borrow an advance copy of Wild and it was a stunning read. Cheryl tells the story of losing her mom to cancer, how she dealt with grief, and how she regained her sense of self by hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. The book was an incredible story and a reminder not to take loved ones for granted. It comes out in March and I highly recommend buying a copy. If that’s not an option, pick it up at your local library. As a side note, I’m attending the Centrum writing conference this summer and I can’t wait to take Cheryl’s workshop!

- The Photo Essay Project. Last year I had the opportunity to participate in The Photo Essay Project and loved every minute of it. So I was excited to learn that Bindu is teaching another session this month, with a focus on black and white street photography. I can’t wait for the course to begin! It’s a wonderful opportunity for beginning and seasoned photographers to improve their skills.

One of my goals this year is to renew my commitment to photography and this course is a great way for me to start off the new year. And it’s a great compliment to the daily photo and note I’ve been sending to email subscribers. If you’re interested in following along, sign-up here.

Also, Bindu was kind enough to offer readers of RowdyKittens a 10% discount on her course!**
