August Essays & Creative Prompt

{On the last day of every month, I post a round-up of the best essays I’ve read during the last 30 days. In addition, I include a creative prompt for your reflection.}

Creative Prompt

What are some of your favorite belongings and why? Write, draw, paint, or consider photographing your response.

For example, my favorite belonging is our little house. You can read the backstory here. To capture the construction process, I’m taking lots of photos and making collages.

    I think I’ll use this as my topic for my own blog post tonight. Thanks!

      @David – Right on! I’ll swing over to your site tomorrow and read it. Have fun writing.

    The Quiet Theory of Influence and Reclaim Blogging were two important essays in my estimation too. I look forward to reading your other recommendations, which I know will be equally invigorating. Thank you so much for including my article on Overcoming Digital Overwhelm. I’m delighted and honored!

    I often neglect the imaginative or creative side of my writing. Your creative prompts help me open up another side of myself. Thanks for the nudge.

    Hi, Tammy. Great prompt. I wrote a post on my blog earlier today based on the question. It’s actually difficult to pick out my favorite things because I don’t get attached to many things. I like items that are useful and that last a long time like a great pair of shoes or something in the kitchen. I think I like places more than things (like sitting at a dining room table rather than the table itself).

      @Domestic Kate – I feel the same way. Although, I love the little house, my computer and my bike too. I’ll take a peek at your post later today! Can’t wait to read your thoughts. 🙂

    Love watching/reading about Building Smalltopia and your journey and discovery of what’s really important. We have also been on a similar journey for the past two years as we downsized from a 3,800 sq.ft. home to our 687 sq.ft. Love Shack. Some days are tougher than others and I’m still purging and will be having a huge 31-Day purge in October of my storage space…my biggest obstacle are the emotions attached to the life and things that I thought were my life. Anyhow…just wanted to cheer you on and also let you know (in case you haven’t heard 😉 about the Tiny House design show on HGTV Design Star this coming Monday. Here’s my post about it today…enjoy! Fondly, Roberta

      Hey Roberta – Thanks for stopping by and sharing the info about HGTV. I had no idea that was going on. I’ll be sure to check out your site. Your downsizing journey sounds like a lot of fun. 🙂
