Building Smalltopia: A Tiny House Update

Editor’s Note: Every Friday, I post a Simple Living News Update that includes links to some of my favorite articles of the week. In addition to the update, I answer a reader question via video.

I’ve been getting a lot of questions about the status of our tiny house, including:

Have you started building your little house yet? Or are you still in the design phase? Can you give us a general update about the house?

Here’s my response . . .

For those of you who can’t watch the video, read these posts:

Now onto the news . . .

Why you shouldn’t release an ebook

“Every time a product is sold to a customer, there is an opportunity to further a relationship. Trust. You break the trust, you lose the customer. Bad products make it harder for everyone to sell products that are worth the amount being charged.

The internet is wonderful invention that allows us to create awesome, useful, wonderful books and websites and whatever else together. In fact, we’ve already created so much valuable material on how to do all of those things, there is no excuse to put out a crappy product.”

Wasted Opportunity

“I understand it’s not cool to ‘sell out,’ but you know what else isn’t cool? Not having enough money to do what you love.”

Colin Beavan: Advice From an Accidental Activist

“Part of the reason one person can make a difference is that one person’s efforts soon inspire other people’s efforts. So inspire other people to get involved by sharing your personal story.

. . . It is through the personal that people connect with the political.”

Work is a Sanctuary

“At the end of the day, work is where I am at home.”

Tammy – off topic I know, but that hydrangea tattoo is pretty!

Good to hear you are moving along! I pray the weather is absolutely beautiful this year for your project and it runs smoothly!

Oh I’m so glad you shared the Zero Waste Home folks! Their story totally needs to be spread. Loved the video!

It is so cool that you are going to have your own little home soon! My DH and I cringe every time we write the rent check (around $1200 when water and parking are added).

    Dear Tammy,

I have been reading your blog for a while, but this is the first time I gathered my courage to leave a comment. I am in the process of a major life(style) adjustement: I will be leaving my good secured job and change countries, leaving my friends behind and pretty much getting out of my comfort zone – wayyyy out 🙂
Last week I got the ebooks package and your Smalltopia was the first one I read. I loved the simple approach not only to building a tiny business but also to how to manage daily life. After reading your material, I realized that I just have to move my standpoint a little bit and then the entire picture changes. Slowly I am getting less terrified to change and actually find the excitement of starting new. I even decided to document my experiences and maybe start a blog to help me and other people who might be going through similar self-doubt.

Thank you and I wish you all the best with your projects! You are an inspiration!
